Matching Alphabets to Pictures!

What is it

  • Matching sheets to practice matching alphabets to pictures

  • 2 alphabets on one page (upper and lower case)

Teaching objectives

  • Learn about alphabets (uppercase and lowercase)

  • Learn about the sound each alphabet makes

  • Learn about words/pictures that start with the corresponding alphabet

  • Develop pre-writing skills (drawing lines from one point to another)

How to use

  • Go through the alphabets and pictures on each page individually

  • You can ask “what starts with the letter A?” or “Apple starts with the letter ?”

  • Get your child to point to the answer then draw a line from the alphabet to the picture

Teaching tips

  • Pair this activity with phonics songs to make learning more interactive and fun

  • For children who have difficulty drawing a line, draw a bold or dotted line from the alphabet to the corresponding picture.

  • Get your child to trace the line with his finger to encourage tracking

  • Use our alphabet colouring pages to teach your child the different words that start with the corresponding alphabet

Embed more learning opportunities

  • Receptive language: “where is letter A?”

  • Expressive language: “What is this?”

  • General knowledge: “What else starts with the letter A?”
