What is it

Tracing shapes worksheet (prompted and independent tracing)


Teaching Objectives

  • Learning the name of different shapes

  • Learning to trace different shapes

How to use

  • Name the shape in each piece

  • The name of each shape is provided at the top of the paper. Trace the letters as well.

  • Start with the most prompted shape then progress towards independent tracing

  • Name the objects and the shape of the object (This is a button. It is in a shape of a circle.)


Teaching tips

  • Pair this puzzle activity with a shape song/ video to create a more interactive learning experience

  • Do one or two shapes in one sitting to reduce confusion


Embed more learning opportunities

  • Receptive language - Where is the square?

  • Expressive language - What shape is this?

  • Find objects around the house that corresponds to the shape on the paper

  • Colour in the shapes for more opportunity to learn the name of the shape
