Colouring Shapes with Border Prompts

Level 1: Thick borders

Level 2: Thin borders

Level 3: No borders

Learn to colour within the borders

Start with Level 1, then slowly progress to level 2 then 3.

Thick borders are provided to allow room for error, as child may not understand to colour within the border or does not have enough control to do so

Emphasize colouring ‘inside’ the lines (i.e. good colouring inside the lines!)

Ensure that your child is looking when he/she is colouring. If he/she is not, stop him from colouring and allow to resume when he looks. Praise for good looking!

If your child colours outside the lines, provide feedback (i.e. that’s not inside) and prompt him/her to colour inside.

Prompt the child hand over hand and slowly reduce your holding pressure if he starts to understand to colour within the lines.
