Learn how to read instructions- Circle and Cross out

What is it

A set of worksheets with different instructions (circle, cross out) to teach and help children discern the distinct action associated with each instruction

Teaching Objectives

  • Learn to read and understand the two different instructions (circle, cross out) and its respective actions

  • Sustained attention for counting and circling/crossing out tasks

How to use

  • Use the prompts to teach and let your child understand what they need to do when seeing the instruction

  • Practice on the word itself and then on pictures/numbers

  • Highlight to child what label must be the instruction be done on

  • Count and Circle/Count and Cross out - explain to child what is the worksheet about and begin with the pages with prompts and proceed to fade the prompt

Teaching tips

  • For worksheets with more pictures, highlight what they need to do and help them out on other factors such as pointing out which pictures needed to be circled (e.g., circle all the green). This is to make it clearer for the child to focus on the instruction.

Embed more learning opportunities

  • Expressive language – Point to a number word and ask “What number is this?”

  • Expressive language – Point to a picture and ask “What is this?”
