What is it

A set of worksheets designed to help children count up to 10 using number bonds, improving their numeracy and mental math skills.

Teaching Objectives

  • Recognise number bonds and part-whole relationships

  • Identify patterns in addition

  • Strengthen mental math skills

  • Practice counting in multiples or groups

  • Exposure to different worksheet skills and instructions

How to use

  1. Cut & Paste

Read the worksheet instructions together with your child and guide them in identifying how many fruits each basket should contain/which numbers should be used.

Parents may assist by helping to cut out the fruits/numbers and apply glue if your child is unsure how to do so independently.

  1. Number Bonds Equations

Read the worksheet instructions together with your child and guide them to follow the given prompts when completing the addition questions.

Introduce the pattern “A + B = C” using number bonds first, then help your child connect this understanding to writing addition equations.

  1. Count and Write Number Bonds

Guide your child to count the number of items in each part and the whole, then write the correct numbers in the circles.

    • Provide visual support by using fingers to help them add the numbers together.

    • Offer verbal prompts by counting aloud together.

    • Refer to previous worksheets as visual examples if your child needs additional support.

Here are some videos that can help with teaching the concept:

Embed more learning opportunities

  • Receptive language – “Point the number 2”, “Show me 5 with your hands”

  • Expressive language – Have your child identify labels correctly e.g. point to the grapes and ask “what is this?”, point to the green circle and ask  “what colour is this?”
