What is it
Writing worksheets for children learning to write - lowercase letter words with box and line prompts
Teaching Objectives
To practice copying and writing words with lowercase letters
To learn to write in smaller size
To learn to write on the line
To practice writing tall vs short letters
To work on sustained attention and independence to complete worksheet
To learn to read CVC words and sight words of common daily items and labels
How to use
If a child is just beginning to write, start with the worksheets with boxes for the individual letters.
Then move on to worksheets with line prompts to work on improving handwriting to stay on the line and write tall vs short letters
For either reading or writing, start with easier CVC words to build them up before moving on to harder sight words or words with more letters
Pair what they are writing with the pictures to help them understand the meaning of the words better
Increase the number of worksheets they need to complete systematically
Teaching tips
Get the child to trace first to practice writing with the correct strokes, then replicate again by copying below.
If child does not know the correct strokes of the letter, practice in isolation or show child how to trace, then get them to do it again
Use directional verbal prompts to help them recall the strokes (e.g. for e- across and around)
Embed more learning opportunities
Receptive sight words - cover the pictures and ask child to point to a word (e.g. point to cat)
Spelling - cover the words and get the child to recall and spell out the word
