What is it

A set of worksheets designed to help children learn to identify numbers 1–10 through fun colouring activities.

Teaching Objectives

  • Recognise and read numbers from 1-10.

  • Strengthen fine motor control through colouring.

  • Develop visual scanning and matching skills.

  • Work on sustained attention and independence to complete worksheets.

  • Learn and apply worksheet skills by recognising different instructions. E.g., find, colour, count.

How to use

  • Print and prepare the activity sheets for the level your child is ready for.

  • Progress gradually from Part A (with colour prompts) to Part C (independent scanning).

  • Introduce the numbers first by reviewing learning targets with the child before starting each worksheet.

  • Work with the child to find and colour the items for the first few rounds, then gradually encourage independence by letting them match on their own.

Teaching tips

  • If sustained colouring is challenging for the child, make it easier by reducing the area they need to colour.

  • Guide your child to identify the corresponding number options before finding and colouring first if your child has difficulties scanning.

  • Generalise counting skills by practicing in everyday scenarios (e.g. counting number of cups on the table, or number of candies).

  • Incorporate number songs and rhymes to help children remember and sequence numbers more easily.

Here are some videos to help with :

  • Songs

Embed more learning opportunities

  • Receptive language – “Count 5 ducks” or “Point to number 6 in the picture”

  • Expressive language – Using longer phrases such as “8 fishes”, or “there are 8 fishes”.

  • Integrate counting into everyday interactions. When encountering multiple objects, prompt the child by asking, ‘How many?’
