What is it

Worksheets to learn to write simple sentences with sentence stems as prompts

Teaching Objectives

  • Learn to write simple sentences

  • Practice writing many words at one go

  • Learn to read common words and action verbs

  • Learn simple grammatical rules

  • Develop independence when doing worksheet

How to use

  • Trace the sentence stems and fill in the last word with a word provided in the visual

  • Copy the sentence stem and, similarly, fill in the last word with a word in the visual

  • Allow child to copy and write the sentence himself

  • Different sentence stems provided to expose child to the use of words/verbs in different grammar forms (e.g. I like to eat vs The boy is eating)

  • Create your own worksheet and sentence according to your child’s likes and preferences!

Teaching tips

  • Continue to expand and introduce new sentence stems depending on your child’s understanding of concepts

    • Colour (e.g. The ball is (colour)

    • Attributes (e.g. The bear is big; The mouse is small.)

    • Longer sentences (e.g. I like apple and strawberry)

    • Plural (e.g. John and Mark are playing.)

Embed more learning opportunities

  • Reading

    • Cover the picture and see if your child is able to read the word without the picture
