What is it

Worksheets that aim to teach children to identify the months of the year and their order through varied activities.

Teaching Objectives

  • Work on reading the different months of the year.

  • Learn the order of the months of the year, and their corresponding numbers (1 January, 2 February, 3 March …).

  • Learn the abbreviations of each month (January - Jan).

  • Expose on different events or activites happening on each month (eg. August-National Day; October-Halloween).

  • Work on sustained attention and independence to complete worksheets.

  • Learn and apply worksheet skills by recognising different instructions. E.g., cut, paste, colour, match.

Months of the year wheel and poster

How to use

  • Print and laminate the ‘Months of the Year’ poster, and hang it at home, anywhere that is easily accessible to your child. Refer to this poster whenever you are teaching your child the months of the year.

  • Make the ‘Months of the Year’ wheel to help your child recognize the months of the year, and their order.

  • Get your child to match the months of the year to the corresponding number (January → 1; June → 6).

  • Get the child to colour the letters of the months to increase their familiarity with the words.

Teaching tips

  • Expose your child to different events or activities happening during the months to help them associate them with each month of the year.

  • Teaching your child to read the months of the year by breaking down the pronunciation (ie. January → Ja-nu-a-ry; October → Oc-to-ber).

Embed more learning opportunities

  • Receptive language – “point to March”, “Point to the month after May.”

  • Expressive language – point to one of the months on the poster, and ask the child, “What month is this?”, ask the child “This month is November. What comes after November?”

  • Spelling – cover the words and get the child to recall and spell the months of the year independently!

  • Use the spinning wheel to reinforce the sequence of the months of the year, and use it in your daily life.
